OVERVIEW
Life as a child soldier left Setsuna with a hatred for war that would come to define the person he is now and inform his path in life. He was saved from certain death by a machine called Gundam, which he came to idolize as the embodiment of the eradication of warfare.
He was recruited into a para-military terrorist organization called Celestial Being, whose mission is to bring an end to all war by force. Though their mission statement appears contradictory, Setsuna chooses to fight for Celestial Being as a Gundam Meister. He believes that fighting is all he's capable of, meaning it's the only feasible path he can take towards achieving the dream of ending war. Setsuna strives hard to live up to his own ideals and "become a Gundam", all while questioning how it is that the world became so "twisted" in the first place.
Over time, Setsuna's perspective towards himself begins to shift. He begins to accept that he is capable of becoming someone who can do more than fight, and that he must change if he truly wants to bring an end to the "twistedness" in the world; that if conflicts are to end, there must be communication and understanding between people. Using his Gundam and his strange burgeoning abilities, Setsuna is able to facilitate spaces for mind-to-mind communication on the battlefield. However, this doesn't mean that he ceases to fight: some battles are necessary, and some foes can't be reasoned with. Rather, he knows that negotiation co-exists effectively alongside the use of force.
Ultimately, Setsuna's change is both as a person and as a living thing; he awakens as an Innovator, a new kind of human entirely that is best suited to harness his Gundam's communicative abilities. The psychic-like abilities he now possesses make the adjustment difficult on him, but in the series' (current) final conflict, he's able to use both his abilities and the lessons he's internalized to bring an end to a potentially apocalyptic war with alien life-forms called ELS, bridging the seemingly insurmountable communication gap between them and the humans.
With this, Setsuna says that he finally understands the reason for his existence. You did it, buddy. You became Gundam.

Using Telepathy/Mind Reading Abilities On This Character: I'm definitely open to it! Depending on where in the timeline he's taken from, Setsuna has a degree of telepathic/extrasensory abilities of his own, so I think this subject could be a lot of fun to explore. WARNINGS and OPT OUT: As stated above, Setsuna is a former child guerrilla soldier. He was kidnapped from his family and brainwashed to fight in an ostensible "holy war". To "prove his devotion to God", he was ordered to kill his own parents. These events left him with deep trauma, and he exhibits symptoms of PTSD throughout the series.
